Abstract

The implementation of new technologies may imply the need for integration between systems. Thus, this article aims to investigate how the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) can be used to analyze the integration and compatibility between the functions of a socio-technical system. The work revealed that integration problems of the systems verified in a critical event could be anticipated through the analysis of the normal or potential variabilities of normal work. In addition, the analysis of the whole process allows to visualize that variations in one point of the system, even without direct links with other parts, can be indicative of problems to emerge at other points, since small variabilities can affect the whole structure of the system due to non-linearity of their relations.
